The Monkey and the Girl by Cecil Henry Bompas: I think this story is very different from other stories I have read in the past. It is interesting to me that the fathers first thought was to kill the monkey. It is ironic to me that he did not want his daughter to marry an animal, yet he gave the monkey a human-like funeral. In many of my readings I have done, humans and animals are separated and the story either is about animals interacting or humans interacting. It was interesting to see how they both interacted together and how the older humans treated the animal versus the girl. I also think it was interesting how the girl was said to have had a monkey's soul because she wanted to die with him.
The Tiger Cub and the Calf by Cecil Henry Bompas: This story was very sad. One of the messages I got from is was to watch your back because even those that are your friends can turn on you. I thought it was interesting that the cow mother simply gave up and accepted that she was going to die and leave her child behind. If I were to retell this story I think that I would have the mother cow fight back and try to survive or even run away with her child. I liked that the children ran away together because it shows that even those who are different can come together and keep each other safe.
