Tech Tip, Weather Widget

I decided to add the weather widget to my blog. This way others, as well as myself, can see the weather whenever they look at my blog. It was super easy and I suggest others do the same for some easy extra credit!

Tech Tip: Quote

I chose this quote because it is one that has really resonated with me in my college experience and it never fails to make me smile. I have grown a lot throughout my past three and a half years here at OU and a lot of that is because I have branched out and tried new things. Even if I haven't ended up liking the things I have tried, I have learned from them. That, to me, is what this quote is all about. It also makes me smile because there is a The Office episode where Michael Scott has quoted this. The Office is one of my all time favorite shows and so this quote is perfect for me.

Tech Tip: Canvas Mobile App

This week I decided to do a tech tip by downloading the Canvas mobile app. I kind of hate technology so this was a big step for me. I would much rather just log onto my computer and only have to learn how to use Canvas in one location. I have found that I do like having the app because I do not always have my computer with me. It is not super helpful for me this semester because most of what I need to do for this class needs to be done on the computer. Next semester, more of my classes will be using Canvas so I look forward to using the app more then!

Tech Tip: Pinterest Embedded

Here is my Pinterest board I have created for this class. I have added some pictures from the different cultures we have been reading about. I love Pinterest because they have so many different ideas and articles from all around the world! It has really helped me visualize the different aspects of each culture!

Tech Tip: Pinterest Board

This week I decided to create a Pinterest board for this class. I love using Pinterest for anything from cooking to working out to shopping. I look forward to using this board throughout the rest of this class.

Tech Tip: blog profile

This week I added the profile option that includes the About Me caption. Growing up while social media and technology has been advancing so quickly, I feel like I am pretty aware of my online identity and how easy it is for others to see information that I choose to post online. I know many people that have had their information stolen through the internet and even someone who had her children "virtually kidnapped" because her profile was not 100% private. Coming into college and going through sorority recruitment, I had to be very aware of the things I was posting and how my online identity reflected who I was. I think having that experience was good because I have been aware ever sense of how certain things look to other people. Having a good online identity is very important for future jobs in order to make connections with others while maintaining a respectable online reputation.

Tech Tip: Blogger Template

Today I decided to change the template of my blog! It is a super easy and quick way to change the look of my blog. I wanted something colorful, but not too colorful where it makes the blog too busy and hard to read. I liked this pink one I have chosen because it is a fun color with a small design, but is not too overwhelming and it is still easy to read my posts!

Introduction to a College Senior (Tech Tip: Embedded YouTube)

Hi, my name is Lauren and I am a senior at University of Oklahoma. I am a psychology, pre-occupational therapy major and Spanish minor. I am hoping to graduate in May and go on to attend the University of Oklahoma Health Science School. I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas which is just a short three-hour drive from OU. When I get the opportunity to venture home I love to spend my time catching up with my family. I have an older brother and a younger brother, which makes me the middle child and the only girl! Something my family and I all have in common is that we are huge dog lovers. In all we have four right now, although we’re always looking to grow our canine family. We have two dogs that live in Fort Worth: a chocolate Labrador and a German short-haired pointer. Sadly, our other two dogs live on our ranch in Tishomingo, OK so I do not get to see them as often; they are both Great Pyrenees and are massive sheepdogs and great cuddlers.

When I am not in class or visiting my family, I am usually working. I nanny for a family of seven…a big family with a huge heart. The Dzialo’s are a huge part of my life here in Oklahoma and I don’t know what I am going to do when I graduate and have to leave them. They have an older set of twin girls who are six years old and just started first grade last week. The younger set of twins just turned three a week ago and have begun toddler pre-school. Lastly, baby number five is a whopping eight (almost nine) months old and was a big surprise to mom and dad when they found out she was coming. For me, nannying is the time when I can relax and just hang out with kids who don’t know what the real world is like yet and it is refreshing to be around such little minds.

Some of my favorite hobbies are traveling, reading, running, and hanging out with friends. I am a huge Harry Potter fanatic and love everything J.K. Rowling has written. My mom always makes fun of me and my brothers for watching the Harry Potter Puppet Pals video, but it is too fun to annoy her with.

I am someone who has to be busy all the time…not hard when you are responsible for five kids most of the day. I am anxious to be a senior and have all of my friends graduate and move away at the end of the year, but I am also excited to see where everyone will end up; a very bittersweet feeling. It is easy to get overwhelmed when looking at the big picture of my future and trying to plan out my next five years, so for now I’m just taking it one day at a time.
